There should at least be a note on this in the portal page in the control panel. I've been posting things in 2 posts recently and happened to go into the code to add a new tag and saw that there was a truncate option, then had to come here to figure out how to use it.
It would be nice if there was an option to add this tag in the markup panel in v8.something.
