agree, if you have such a huge user base ( mailing list ), why not use it to your benefit
what i do is export the email list to a csv, then to phplist ( free ), grab a nice mailchimp template ( free ) and use it to do the heavy lifting.
the formatting of the mailer is much more flexible that way too
