You should always try to run the current build; keep in mind that if your site is (or was) hacked, malicious users could add files elsewhere to gain access again and that other scripts installed on the server could allow them to edit files on your server as well.
As for your support area; this is a user to user forum, I'm sure you've noticed the lack of "the powers that be" here; they seem to take user to user to an extreme, your best bet is contacting them through
the support system
