i've gone to the green shield on one forum and the easiest way to handle any stray internal links ( http vs https ) is just to hijaack the Graemlin Smarty filter and add a change to https wherever an http link is found
the same hijaack is used to implement a CDN for images/* styles/* as well..
works great
