I like the choice of soft deleting a post or thread over the permanent deletion of a post or a thread.

The feature has always been available. You just need to configure it.

1) Create a new forum where only you and the moderators have access, such as "Trash" or "Recycle Bin." On UBBCentral.com, its called, "The Boneyard."
2) Move the unwanted thread to that separate forum.
OPTIONAL) you can leave a pointer in the old location, and a notice that the topic was moved. you can even have that notice expire after a certain time period. in addition, you can have the topic starter (OP) notified that the topic was moved.
NOTE: Only members with access to the new forum group will be able to read the topics within them.

Now if you want to make it public again, you can move it back to where it came from, or to any other location you have access to.

This also allows you to create a forum to move all your SPAM POSTS to, so you can track the spammer accounts. You could also move controversial topics in to a sub-forum of your admin/moderator area, where they can be held for moderation by only those members who you've given access to.

This feature has been available within UBB.threads for many years. It allows much more freedom than just "hiding" a topic.
