To replicate the error, I'm using a freshly formatted ubuntu LTS LAMP server and am following the install instructions step by step. Everytime, I end up with a working forum with a broken control panel.

After reading this threat, it wasn't clear if your blank control panel pages ever cleared up, and if so, what did you do to fix that?

Thanks!
The very first thing I would suggest is to enable debugging. Since you can't get to the control panel, you'll have to edit the config file directly. It's located in the includes directory and is named config.inc.php. Edit this line: 'ALLOW_DEBUGGING' => '1' and change it from 0 to 1. (It's on line 12 near the beginning of the file.) That will at least print some errors to the screen that might help you track down the problem. I keep debugging enabled all the time just for occasions like this. (And yes, I know it's a security risk. I don't care.)
