Isn't the 'Forum List' the same as 'index' - or am I missing something?
No, it isn't the same. Index takes you up one level. If you are reading a thread it will take you to the forum listing of all the threads. If you are in a sub forum it should take you back to the forum above it. If you are in a forum then it takes you back to the category, etc. At least this is how it should work.
Clicking on Forum List takes you to the list of all the forums (top level).
