None of our forums require registration - how do I get rid of the empty 'registration' box

I went into ultimatebb.cgi file through Notepad and deleted the <table> but now ubb page will not work at all - throws up error messages namely:

The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are:

syntax error at D:Inetpubwwwrootcgi-binultimatebb.cgi line 4, near "HEAD>"
Unterminated <> operator at D:Inetpubwwwrootcgi-binultimatebb.cgi line 9.

I am now getting our IT department to recover the file from 2 days ago so I can start from scratch.

Just so I don't make a mistake again - what is best way to get rid of empty box?
