I'm curious about the network file system you're using - we generally forbid the use of standard NFS because of severe file locking problems that result in horrid instability. If you're in a position where you need to load balance, you'd be far better off with UBB.threads or Eve. Also, the recently announced replcement product for both UBB.threads and UBB.classic would be a good candidate to load balance.
