A few months back I downloaded the UBB Freeware version. The UBB site states that if you can install this, then you will have no problems with the full version.

The only problem is, is the UBB now uses Perl 5. Although it does state on the site that this is now required, I did not see this. I have now purchased the full version which I can not use as my server only has version 4. I feel a little hard done by Infopop on ths and it should have been clearer.

Now, is it possible to get hold of an older version of the UBB which will work with Perl 4? I spent $200 on this and will not be able to use it.

Please help.

No, there is not older version of UBB available that will work with perl 4.

You mention that you downloaded the freeware version a few months ago and it worked fine with perl 4. Where did you download the freeware ubb from? The freeware version has been 2000d since auguest and does not work with perl 4. The freeware version before 2000d, was 2000c which was released in April which as well doesn't work with perl 4.

Thanks for the reply. I am using version 2000c at the moment. (see it at www.migclub.f9.co.uk/board). So what you are saying is that my current board should not work? As it does, is there any reason why the full version will not?

Many thanks

I downloaded it from the infopop site, so it is an official version.

If 2000c works on your server, then you have perl 5 on your server and the full version should work fine as well. Have you attempted to install the full version yet? Make sure to use to use the same perl path as used in the freeware version and it should work fine.

I still can't get it to work. The perl path is right (the same as it was for the freeware version), the permissons are correct and I did upload the cgi files in ASCI. I backed up the Freeware version first which I have now re-uploaded and worked first time.

The problem is the General Settings, it comes up with either "server error" or "page cannot be displayed". I have setup the cplinks.html file and it is pointing in the correct direction.

If you'd like you can email me your FTP information and I will see if I can find the problem.

Sorry, but I have managed to get it going now. There is still a problem though as I can not post or reply to the board. To see what I mean, try it out at http://www.migclub.f9.co.uk/board

Thanks again

No. I have no knowledge of CGI so I couldn't even if I wanted to. Which .cgi file is associated with posting?

postings.cgi and the ubb library files though if you did not edit them you don't need to worry about them.

Are you sure you finished the entire upgrade process including, resetting General Settings, Styles Settings, Forum Settings, Moderators and then Update Threads?

I have $10 on it being idiots that run the server, and not properly installing Socket.pm. What does the socket test at the top of your general variales page say?

Thanks guy, I got it sorted. I'm not sure what the problem was, but instead of upgrading, I installed as new, later adding member and forum info back onto the server.

Have a look at www.migclub.f9.co.uk/board if you have time.

Thanks again for your help.

PS. My ISP swear they are only using Perl4 and they told me the wrong path too!
