Hello, I work for a federal agency and was interested in using the UBB for our Intranet site. I am having troubles with the absolute paths. We are using a Distributed Comp. Environ. and Dist. File Sys. with AIX on ibm servers. I saw from a different forum(Win NT) that C. Capps said UBB is not inteded to run on distributed environments. Could this be the root of my troubles?...I wish I could let ya'll look at the system, but it's on the intranet and pretty secure (so they say). I sure would appreciate any help!!...THANKS!!!

What is the exact error that comes up when you attempt to set the absolute paths?

mjrand this is the error message that I get

"Unable to open UltBB.setup file for writing
Error: Permission denied
Please check that absolute paths are correct in the control panel and the permissions are set properly."

The cgi-bin directory has permissions set to 777 and the UltBB.setup is 755. I have tried 777 on the file but it still failed.

Thanks for your help!!!

The error means that UltBB.setup does not have correct permissions. The cgi-bin directory should be set with 755 permissions. All 4 variable files should be set with 777 permissions.

Thanks mjrand!!...I changed them (back) to cgi-bin having 755 and the variables having 777 like you said, but I am still getting the same error as above. I guess I was trying different combinations to see if I could get it to work.

Upload ubb_test.cgi from the help folder to the cgi directory in ascii and set it with 755 permissions. It can be used to verify paths and permissions.

mjrand here are the results of the script test for the CGI-BIN
1.Path exists and is a directory, NOT writable
2.Found and OK for all six files in the directory
3.Read NOT Writable for all four variable files. Permission denied.
4.Paths have not been defined correctly in the control panel.
I have looked at the permissions on the four files and they are set to 777. Whats going on here?...I sure do appreciate your help. THANKS!!

ubb_test.cgi is showing that the files are not set with 777 permissions. Please post a copy of your permissions here.

Permissions look fine. Is there a .htaccess file in the cgi directory? If so, remove it as it might be causing problems. If there isn't one or that doesn't fix the problem, unfortunately as you are on an intranet, and I am unable to check all your settings first-hand, there isn't much more help I can offer on this issue.

no .htaccess file in the directory. I hate that I can't let you see what is happening here, let me ask one final question. I see that the directory is linked in the root directory
apps ->/:/apps
could this have some bearing? Thanks again for all your help.

As far as I know, no, that should not cause this problem. Have you tried moving the ubb cgi files into another directory as a test?

Hey mjrand, thanks for your time. I did try to move the files to another directory, with the same problem...I chmoded them to 777 then the test scripts says that they are read not write. Same thing as before. I have contacted the main office to see if I can get more internal support. If you happen to think of any other diagnostics I could try please send them along. Thanks again.
