Getting permmissios error

Unable to open UltBB.setup file for writing. Here is the error:

Permission denied

Check:

that the path D:/inetpub/u********s/cgi-bin exists
[Unix/Linux] That you chmod'ed UltBB.setup 777.
[Windows NT] That directory permissions for D:/inetpub/u********s/cgi-bin and D:/inetpub/u********s/ubb are 'Change' or RWXD for the IUSR_ORION user. An NT Admin must make this change.

What do I need to tell the NT admin to change??

The *'s are not really in my paths

To change the permissions of the cgi-bin and ubb dirs to RWXD.

Just a thought <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

There is a permissions problem still with the variables files. You need RWXD and on some systems, modify as well.

This is what I got from the NT Admin.

Anyfiles that will need write access must reside in the db folder. We do not allow write and execute script access in the same directory. Please move any files that need write access into the db directory.

What files do I need to move and what changes do I need to make to make this work??

I had the same problem, but I was also using FP 2k extensions. I had to go in a create a directory that allowed write permissions using FrontPage. If you need, email me and I will send you a link to show you how to do what I had to do. I'm really in the same boat you are in!

Ok after reading throught the instructions I found a problem. The NT admin informed me that my db directory is for write/read only and my cgi-bin was execute/read only. In the instructions It says my cgi-bin must be read/write/execute. They won't let me change it. So how do I get around this???

Your cgi-bin needs to be read/execute and your variables_file (which are USUALLY stored in cgi-bin) need to be read/write/execute (i believe). Variable files need write and execute permissions - can another mod confirm this?

Call me a quiter of what ever you want but this is my first NT server expeince - as far as hosting. All my domains have always been Unix based. So I give up. I switched it to a unix box - its amazing how I had not problems getting it to work on my unix box!
I think the problem was lack of the host letting me change permissions. Not the UBB's fault.

Thanks for all the help.

We put our UBB on a Unix box under a .net domain. It just seemed the easiest thing to do.

Had similar probs w/UBB-NT install, plus a whole whack of others too numerous to mention (all NT issues). Switch to Unix or increase your Valium dosage and stock up on spare keyboards.

The problem isn't with the OS, but allowing people to access it. Until terminal services came along (*GODSEND*) there was no way to remotely admin an NT box without a 3rd party product (like PCA). It's easier to set something simple up on *nix because it just involves typing a sequence of commands. Maybe WinNT needs good telnet/ssh facilities.

I don't blame the os I blame my FORMER webhost. I dropped them because of this. They don't allow any changing of permissions on NT boxed and you can only change permissions on the cgi-bin and subdirectories of it on unix boxes. So I switched to a different host and now I have it running on a Unix box with no problems and if I wanted my new host allows permissions changes on NT boxes also. So its a difference between good host and bad host, not OS's
