I have been watching the threads and I am convinced(sp?) that there is something wrong with the installation docs for the freeware UBB. I have followed them "TO THE LETTER", without any success. This is getting very frustrating. I am using WS-FTP-LE to transfer the files to the site.
The site is http://games.calweb.com/
the cgi folder is right after that and so is the ubb folder. The permissions are exactly what they are supposed to be(per the docs on web site)
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. I can send you the folder list(s) from notepad if you wish.Heck I would be happy to... <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Thanks from the heart!! I really want to get this to work as I am very impressed as to the features that the commercial version has and I want to get this going so I can "iron out the bugz" so when I get the Pro. version , I can do it without problems.

Thanks again

the url for the CP... http://www.games.calweb.com/ubb/cp.html

And the place for the edit of the url has no www. with the www I get a 404 file not found, and without I get the "Page can not be displayed.

Any further info will be gladly provided. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Based on your URL above I'm assuming your web host is http://www.calweb.com I checked their site and see no mention of cgi support. But they also don't mention that they don't support cgi. Have you checked with them to see if the support 3rd party cgi scripts, and support them running from a directory called cgi-bin? If they do support cgi, make sure they have it activated for your account as some hosts turn it on and off by user.

Yes the host is Calweb.com and yes CGI is supported and the perl IS in /usr/bin. Everything seems to be correct but once I try to attempt to access the General Setup in the Control Panel.... from there nothing works... I really want to get this working so I can show the company that it would worth while to purchase the licensed version and then I can really get the forums going. There are lots of users that want to get involved but until it is working, I am up the proverbial creek.

Well, quite frankly Calweb's FAQ's are lacking. It looks like they are making some changes to their servers based on reading the FAQ. Also, per their instructions at http://www.calweb.com/www-com/web.html I think your url does not conform to how they say your page s/b setup.

I think your problem is not with UBB but with the configuration of the Calweb servers. Are there any members only areas that have some better faqs for cgi that you could share with us.

A good place to start is with the two hello scripts in your help folder that came with the UBB zip.

Make these run first and then you'll know cgi is enabled. Chmod them 755, make sure the top line is correct, upload them in ASCII and then call the scripts from your browser.
