Why am I not seeing my post right after I post and sometimes the board show a new post has been made, but I can't see it?

It seems to be a problem with the transition page that says to wait to be transferred to the topic. When I click on the link on that page, I can't see my post. Also, that page really hangs up and creates a bottleneck. Thoughts?

It is difficult, if not completely impossible to properly diagnose most UBB problems without knowing which version of the UBB you are using, as well as the EXACT URL to your control panel, cp.html (NOT a link to your webpage). Please provide this information. Thanks. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Has anyone else reported this difficulty?

What browser are you using?

A couple other people have also expressed issues with this as well. When you reply to a message, it really gets hung up. People generally complain about not being able to see posts and I assume they're trying to hurry up the transition after a post. I asked them to refresh but it seems that they shouldn't have to do that.

I use IE. I'm not sure which browsers they use but I'll ask.

I'm going to move this over to PIT since it seems to be leaning in that direction... <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Okey.. first off, check your IE cache settings. Ensure that IE is set to verify the document on EACH VISIT, not only once per session. That is a 99% fix...

[snipped by CC: Please do not tack on issues to other people's threads. This is called me-tooing, and is generally a frowned upon practice. Please start a new thread containing an exact description of your problem, the URL to your UBB, as well as your UBB version. Thanks.]

Sorry Charles. CatDaddy posts on the CoogFans.com board and had the original question that I posted.

How do we get instant UBB code enabled?

Also, CatDaddy uses Netscape Communicator 4.7 running on a Mac Powerbook G3 w/OS9.
He has the cache setting set to compare page to network every time. This primarily happens when he is connected at home via 56K modem.

I have problems mostly at work where I run on IE Ver. 5.5 on a dell Pentium III. Thanks in advance for your help.

Oooooooooops! <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> He didnt' say he was from your board. We get a lot of people trying to tack on their problems to other people's threads here. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Okay, this sounds like it might be best to try and solve it using a server-side solution.

Are you on Unix with Apache, or are you on NT/Win2k with IIS?

Unix Apache/1.3.12 Server

CatDaddy says he can't see his previous post in the thread as he types a reply. I can review the full "Topic Review" below my reply box so I'm not sure how to diagnose the problem.

That's the designed behavior - after a thread has reached 25 posts, the standard topic review will not be displayed for browsers that do not support the HTML4 / XHHTML1 IFRAME tag. Netscape 4 doesn't support IFRAME, but Netscape 6 does.

Cache fix - create a file called .htaccess in your UBB's noncgi directory. The file needs to contain the following lines:

<FilesMatch *.html>
Header add Cache-control no-cache
</FilesMatch>

Upload the file in ASCII mode.

The string he was referring to only had three posts in it. Do I do the same thing to correct that problem as well? Thanks.

Catdaddy changed browser version to Netscape 6, but still has the problem
that I've been talking about. Now the forums page does not show when he last visited. How can he get this feature back?

Netscape 6 has no known issues with the UBB as far as I know - as long as he is indeed entering through http://www.coogfans.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi (and no other URL), then new post flagging should be working as expected.

If the user is still experiencing cache issues, then you will need to use the .htaccess solution I mentioned above.

.htaccess ... this is just a text file? Not sure exactly what to do here, maybe it just sounds too simple.

Go into notepad
input
<FilesMatch *.html>
Header add Cache-control no-cache
</FilesMatch>

save as .htaccess or .htaccess.txt?

stick it in the non CGI directory (with the forums directories and such?

Please do not attach your own issues to a thread belonging to someone else. It causes a good deal of confusion and rarely helps either party get the problems fixed.

Just .htaccess. If your system is preventing you from naming it .htaccess, upload it to the server with any name you desire, then rename it with your FTP client.

Please post any further questions in a new thread.
