I have the thread about version 5.38a Here

My new problem is that when I'm in control pannel and hit "general settings" it asks for my name and password. I put them in, then it say:

"Sorry, but we couldn't find a record for the UserName you entered. Please try again. Use your Back button."

My member files are all there and all set to 777. What's wrong? Thanks for any help.

Your memberslist.cgi may have been corrupted.

Grab the 5-series member rebuilder from this page, and run it:

https://www.ubbcentral.com/downloads/

That should help. You could also open up a support ticket.

(The rebuilder will ask that you turn your board off, which isn't really easy. You can edit the UltBB.setup file in Notepad - change the $BBStatus line from reading ON to OFF.)

Thanks, Charles. This problem might be a path problem, but a complicated one. When I installed the rebuildmems.cgi and called it up on the browser, it said:

Can't change directory to /home/zoomway/public_html/boards/Members
No such file or directory

The folder Members is there under boards just as the path shows in the Ultbb.setup file, but this is where my explanation might get complicated.

I have a large site that allows me to add on domains, in fact "addon domains" is the control panel program that allows other domains to function on my site. It requires that the domain name be real and with a registrar and that the nameservers get changed. All of which I did. If you type www.zoomway.com into a browser, you'll see an index page that simply says "under construction." However, it's really one big redirect.

Anyone who sets up a subdomain knows the URL looks something like www.subdomain.maindomain.com, or it can be accessed like any other subdirectory, i.e., www.maindomain.com/subdomain. Well, that's how "addon domain" works, but it has a redirect that works swiftly and makes "www.subdomain.com" look and function like an independent site.

In other words, if you put this: http://www.swamptropolis.com/zoomway/ in a browser or this: http://www.zoomway.swamptropolis.com/ You'll get the very same "under construction" page you'd get by going directly to www.zoomway.com.

However, with ALL that said, if you put in http://www.zoomway.com/boards/Ultimate.cgi you'll find my board there where it should be. Go figure.

Another example of true paths in Ultbb.setup are these:

$CGIURL = "http://www.zoomway.com/boards";
$NonCGIURL = "http://www.zoomway.com/boards/ubbhtml";

They work in that they take you to the blank index.html pages that are supposed to be there.

What do I need to change the paths to in Ultbb.setup for my Members lists and everything else to be found by control panel? It's like the Members folder is absolutely invisible.

There may be no cure for this problem, but if not, thanks for all your help anyway. I appreciate the time and effort.

The UBB doesn't care about what sort of aliasing is going on in the frontend, as long as the paths on disk lead to the right files. The URLs are just for linking to the scripts, images, and HTML files properly. (My own forums use the same directory-as-a-subdomain trick.)

If the Members directory is really where UltBB.setup says it is, then it SHOULD be readable...

If you can't figure it out, I would suggest opening a support ticket so we can take a look at your board. (Fixing this should be an easy issue, so don't be scared away by wording warning you about support units... <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> )

Wow, I feel like the only one left with a 5x board. My old post is still the most current <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I solved the path problem by using the ubb test script. It's been so long that I'd forgotten all about it. Apparently a small vestige of the host site had to be there:

/home/swamptr/public_html/zoomway/cgi-bin/boards

That "swamptr" part.

The board is set up now with what forums I was able to download and save before the previous site host crashed. I have a new question now, but will start a new thread. I just thought you'd like to know what was needed for any possible future reference if someone else out there might run into this path problem. Though I guess 5x boards are pretty rare now <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Thanks again for your help.
