Re: Previous topic - User can choose public name, even if already taken

The fix for this has landed in rv201. If you'd like to patch your own boards - find the following line in ubb_profile.cgi:

&CheckForExistingNames($lc_new_public_name, 1);

And replace it with:

&CheckForExistingNames($lc_new_public_name);
I've applied this patch but have since encountered another problem:

Let's say, for example, I already have a member with the public name John. A new member has just joined calling themselves john. Could another next join calling themselves JOHN or JoHn?

This is starting to get confusing. Is this the designed behaviour, or a bug in which the check for existing names is incorrectly case-sensitive?

I've looked at pdnlist.cgi and both versions of the name are there.

I'd much prefer the case to be ignored to prevent having half a dozen John's of one form or another on my board.

Regards

I'd assume this means ubb_registration.cgi needs a similar patch

Agreed, I think that the variant should be off, only one john! lol..

I also don't like the CaSe sensatvity options (on anythign but passwords) but ah well...

Please delete the duplicate member records, and apply the same patch to ubb_registration.cgi.

Beta Release 2 is going out early next week, hopefully Monday.

The same patch, meaning
Code
	&CheckForExistingNames($lc_username, 1); # 1 tells the routine to print out the HTTP header
	&CheckForExistingNames($lc_public_name, 1); # 1 tells the routine to print out the HTTP header
each should be without ", 1". <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

This is fixed in Beta Release 2. For record keeping purposes, the fix landed in rv205.
