I had 12 forums in a category and realized we were missing one. I made the new one (13, unlucky?) and moved it into the middle (actually became like #9) and the rest went from 9->10, 10->11 and so on down the line.
I was careful (I thought) when I did this and changed the last one from 12->13 first and then went up until I had moved all of them down one and then changed the new one to go in the middle.
Well, 3 of the forums already had posts in them and when I did this you could still see the post in the "main index" page as being under the category, but when you clicked on the category it didn't show any threads. I went into the post and replied to it and now the threads show up again in the main category listing. I couldn't find where this was messed up in the database, but this solved the issue.
We only had 1 thread (and post) under each of the moved categories, but I can see this being a major problem if you had a lot.
