My UBB Classic is getting hammered by spammers who seem to get some satisfaction from registering all manner of usernames. This is such a pain because every day I have to go in and Decline the bunch of them, combing out and accepting the few legitimate registrations. (My open forums were getting spammed, too, until I closed them and started requiring registration. Arghhh...)
Now it seems that the only salvation from the spammers would be to turn off the self-registration feature of UBBC and allow only me (the admin) to create new member records. I don't know whether/how I can do this in UBBC. Any suggestions?
BTW, I am planning to upgrade to UBBT7 as soon as it is released. So I should ask a similar question about what is being done in that product to seek relief from the spammers.
TIA

In your other thread you said you want to just turn off self registration, this is done from the control panel: Membership Settings -> Registration Settings -> Suspend Registrations? After that is enabled you will have to create new users from the "Member Management" section of your control panel (see the add user link). I'm hoping this will be a ubb7 feature in 7.1

I couldn't find "Membership Settings -> Registration Settings -> Suspend Registrations?" but I did find "Primary Settings | Registration Settings | Suspend Registrations". I set the radio box to "Do not accept new registrations."
But I cannot locate the link to "add user" from the control panel. Any chance you are speaking of UBBT and not UBBC?
Now that self-registration is suspended, I need to have the Admin create users.

In the 6.7.2 control panel, under "Membership" There is a "Member Management" link, in that section under the table (under the begin search button) there should be an "Add New User" tab.

Ah, that's it. I'm running v6.5 and there doesn't seem to be an "Add New User" tab there. Wonder how they added new users in that version. Hmmm...
I'd upgrade but I'm holding our for UBBT7.

UBB.Threads is NOT UBB.Classic; two completely seperate products... As you posted this in the UBB.Classic forum I was assuming you where using UBB.Classic...
I don't know if UBB.Threads 6 has this ability as I've never run it myself.

I should have said:

I'd convert to UBB Threads, but I'm holding out for UBBT v7.

Yeh but Allen, where he can suspend registrations in .t7 there is no "add new user" function in .t7 either lol... Then again that is a feature request from several users here
