I would like to upgrade my old ubb classic to the latest version.
I have UBB.Classic 6.5.
I just don't see any link to guide me in making my UBB.Classic purchase. I have lost my old ubb license. I know this product is not supported/discontinued, but those of us who would like to upgrade from 6.5 should be given the chance since we have been loyal UBB fans for years.
Please help.
I need the purchase new/upgrade link Price Installation info

Grazi Gizzy, I've set this as a sticky since it will answer most questions people will have regarding their license and upgrading <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The last time I renewed my UBB subscription was when UBB.classicTM 6.5.0, recently I decided to install UBBThreads and I was told that my classic UBB first had to be upgraded to the 6.7.3 version. I was also told that in the members area I would be able to find the upgrade, and I didnt I just found the complete version of the software. In the "read me" file I found this:
NOTE: If you are upgrading an existing licensed board, you need to download the "upgrade" release zip from the Member Area. This is a full installation zip, which is only suitable for new installations or upgrades from the UBB.classic(tm) Trial Version.
And in the Members Area I cant find the "upgrade" release zip .
I already have a board running and I know I need the upgrade not the complete version. Does anybody know where I can find it? Or I would apretiate it if someone can send it to my email. I really want to use the UBBThreads.
My email es esteban|at|proyectogdl.com
Thank you for yoour time

There are no longer "upgrade" and "full install" separation; the only difference in the "full install files with UBB.C where the variables files not being included.
In order to "migrate" from UBB.C to UBB.T7 you must upgrade to a version of UBB.C 6.7.x (any version within it really).

I'm having problems with the upgrade from 6.3.1.1 to 6.7.3. Basically, I've followed the instructions and had to copy the Members/member_test.cgi file into the Members directory as well to avoid it complaining about an invalid Members directory path. It goes all the way to the point where it asks me to register an administration username, which I initially can't as the board is closed. On a second attempt, I reset the board to its starting state, opened the board, enabled registration, and removed the need for registration to be approved. This time it allowed me to register an administration username, but then clicking on the "continue" link on the setup told me that there was no registered administrator though there were registered members. Looking in the code, it seems that the perms_index.cgi file isn't being populated properly (at all?) by the upgrade.
So, two questions and an observation. Firstly, am I supposed to be able to upgrade the board without having to change the registration settings and re-open the board? Secondly, does anyone have any idea why the upgrade isn't working? Finally, the upgrade instructions need amending to include the fact that the Members directory also needs to be copied in.

???
I can't remember ever having to jump through those hoops. I *may* have commented out the check for the membertest.cgi file, but that's a little fuzzy. If I did, the last time was years ago. It really should be going smoother than that.
If you are upgrading you shouldn't have to register an admin account, you should already have one. Are you installing in another location other than what you already had?

8 Years since the original poster, I have pretty much the identical question. I last upgraded at UBB Classic 6.5.0 and now that has become unusuable thanks to the spam bots and the slow cgi-perl response time on my server. So now I think I understand what I need to do at the highest level: * download the UBB CLassic 6.7.3 upgrade zip from the members area * unzip and tweak it locally, then carefully FTP it and configure it Then, when that works * Download the UBB classic 7.latest install zip from the members area * unzip/install it (non-overallpingly, I guess) * copy the 6.7 importer into the importers folder of my newly instally 7.latest * configure it a little and let it import my 6.7.3 data into 7.latest OK, fine. I'm sure it's completely straightforward, and this thread pointed me to the excellent documentation for the 6.7.3 upgrade https://www.ubbcentral.com/support/docs/ubbclassic/UBB6_upgrade_within_6.html--------- Unfortunately, the members download area does not appear (in 2014) to have the "UBB CLassic 6.7.3 upgrade zip", just the full install zip, which includes a readme file explaining how it is NOT the upgrade zip and that using it is guaranteed to blow away all my data. Now, when I paid my $139 just now, this was not apparent to me, since I had no access to the download area. That seems rather unfortunate. (Especially since this is my third full license, but it's been years and years and its all my own fault for not getting around to it before, so there is no one to blame but me, but still... it's unfortunate) What I am asking here is: * IS there any way to get the "UBB Classic 6.7.3 upgrade zip" ? * If not, does it seem likely I can use the full install 6.7.3 that I just downloaded and carefully not overwrite my data? The 'upgrade 6.7.3 instructions look very helpful, unless they are completely inapplicable... I know it will probably be another 10 years before the next 6.5.0 er comes out of the wqodwork, but it would have been more satisfying to know in advance if the situation really is "we no longer support upgrading from UBB Classic 6.5.0 while preserving your members and posts" I hope that didn't sound snitty. I don't mean to be snitty, I want a happy ending, the spammers have pushed me to my limit.

You'll need to contact Support to obtain any licensed files; we're all users on this forum and to provide them would violate our licenses. I'm not even really sure the equivalent of what files would be left out of UBB.C for an upgrade; definately the vars_ files though. BTW, the importer should work with anything within the v6.7 series if you happen to be within it.

i use the 673 release to upgrade older classic versions all the time, then import to 7.5.8 threads. that readme isn't right. i'd just go for it ( with a full backup in place as a safety ) for me, i actually just download all files to my local hard drive and run a local WAMP ( http://wampserver.com ). then i run the upgrade locally, so any bugs or errors or {insert scary things that could happen here} occur on my local install. i then work thru any kinks and upload the new stuff to the actual running website.

Fyi. Since the classic version is not supported anymore.(extremely old) The upgrade zip is no longer available. there is only the one install zip file which can accomplish a upgrade only.
Since your version is very old a caveat is when upgrading you will need to do it in steps to get to ubbthreads 7.5.8. Unless you want to manually alter the database.
The reason being is that a global moderator group was added to the groups that did not exist before so you need to upgrade classic first. Then import to say v7.0 then upgrade to v 7.5.8.

Yeah, I'd imagine most of us who preform upgrade services have the old files in place, and I'd hope that the support desk would still have a copy of the upgrade archive.

I'm not even really sure the equivalent of what files would be left out of UBB.C for an upgrade; definately the vars_ files though. That was the difference, we didn't want people over-writing their vars files and having snitty-fits For minor upgrades like 6.5.1 to 6.5.2 or 6.7.2 to 6.7.3 it made sense to use the upgrade zip but for major jumps from 6.5 to 6.7.x you really need to use the full zip, except for the vars files. Upload the files, go to the admin panel and the upgrade process from there was pretty painless. Please make sure you backup all vars files, but for sure vars_cats, config, forums, and mods - most likely you'll have to overwrite the vars_wordlets files. I can't remember how much CC kept in the ubb_upgrade.cgi file.
