Merry Christmas! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Version 6.2 has been released to the Member Area.

UBB.threadsâ„¢ 6.2 is a major release version that adds the following new features:

</font>
  • <font size="" face="">Added in an option for users to change their display names if the admin allows it. This can be set to immediate change, or a queue where all changes must be approved by an administrator.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added in an option to mark all posts as read.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added in a config option that requires users to verify their email before their account is activated. If used with user registration approval, admins will get notification of the new user after their email is verified. Accounts that do not have their email verified within 24 hours will be deleted.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added a config option to turn user ratings on and off.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Changed the front page to show the subject of the last post along with who posted it for each forum.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Changed the way new posts are flagged on the postlist screen. Instead of using 2 different colored icons, it now uses a different colored table cell for the new post along with bolding of the line. This makes it so admins can upload new post icons of any color.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added in a new option to log all mysql errors along with the time,script and username to daily files. Thanks to Dave_L.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added in an option to log any activity in the admin section that actually changes something. Also a script for admins to view these logs. Thanks to Gardener.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Reworked favorite forums. These will no longer display in the "My home" area. Instead there will be a toggle on the main forum listing page that will allow users to display all forums or only their favorite forums.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added a reply with quote option.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added a new option when moving a thread to leave a pointer at the old location of the thread.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added an option to add a thread to your favorites when posting or replying.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Made the Favorite thread and Reminders links into toggles. This means clicking once will add the thread/post to your favorites/reminders. Clicking again will remove it.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Updated all of the templates to be valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional. Thanks JustDave.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Updated all of the stylesheets to be valid CSS-2. Thanks JustDave.</font></li>
  • <font size="" face="">Added a new CSS stylesheet "GreenDay" by JustDave.</font></li>
<font size="" face="">
Rick's entire change log for version 6.2 is posted at http://community.infopop.net/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=729094322&f=3133094913&m=6633052386

Some important notes:

If you are upgrading to version 6.2 from an older version please be sure to read UPGRADING.html in your .zip file.

The importer from UBB.classic to UBB.threads has also been updated. Be sure that you download a new importer if you happen to have an older version laying around <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> Importers for the 6.1 series will not work for 6.2.

All of the templates have been updated, be sure to upload them.
All of the scripts have been changed/modified as have the cron scripts. Be sure to upload them too <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

All of the style sheets have been updated. If you are using unmodified style sheets just upload the new style sheets over your originals. If you have edited your style sheets and don't want to overwrite them please see the UPGRADING.html file, it contains a list of the new classes.

Notes on the importer:

Log in names are mostly kept as original now. Spaces are no longer converted to underscores.
Public names are no longer converted to log in names. That is no longer necessary with UBB.threads 6.2.
Usernumbers are not carried over. MySQL's auto increment function precludes this ability. It cannot skip numbers as UBB.classic's file system can.
Email ban lists, banned IP addresses and Reserved Name list are now imported.

Lastly, but not least, I'd like to thank all of the UBB.threads beta testers that have worked so hard all year long to make UBB.threads a success. Thanks guys! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

I'm currently running 6.2 br2. My question is, do I still have to upload ALL the changed files or are there certain ones that can be skipped?

Thanks.

I don't think they put together an official list of changed files between beta versions.

If you have something like Beyond Compare, it'll tell you which files are different. Otherwise, to be sure, you best upload them all.

Thanks, Josh. I think, as you said, just to be sure, I'll upload 'em all. With my luck, I'd skip a critical file and then have it blow up in my face... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

I don't trust changed-file lists assembled by human beings. It's too easy to leave something out. I either upload all the files, or use a utility such as BeyondCompare to determine which files have changed.

Yup. Just update your files.

No altertable from the beta is needed.

Hi,

I just upload to 6.2, but i saw that the [Re: $Username] was not there in the nwe version, but my users are missing that ... i know the quote button is there, but the Re: was very handy. I made sels something like the Re: See ->

http://www.jongerenpraat.com/ubbthr...ew=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

But in showflat.php there is a:
list ($Number,$Username,$Posted,$IP,$Subject,$Body,$File,$Open etc. and first there was a variable $Parent and that was the username of the parent poster. Now everything works with numers, but maybe you can tell me here how to put Re: $Username back ?

For info about that.

There's some hacks at threadsdev.com to add that back in. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

UPGRADING.HTML does not specify 6.0.3 specifically. Can I assume that the "----- VERSION 6.0.2 to 6.1" applies to 6.0.3 as well?

Yeah, that's confusing.

6.0.3 was a very minor security fix that came out about a week or two before 6.1.

Ok...I'm stuck.

I can't get altertable-6.1-6.2.php to get past the "Step 1" prompt. It's in a loop.

Yes, I ran altertable-6.0-6.1.php already...successfully.

By the way...you should really, really, really tell people to read both the "Upgrade" instructions AND the UPGRADING.HTML file, from end-to-end FIRST. The former says that it's ok to copy main.inc.php. The latter says it's not. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="images/icons/mad.gif" /> I was able to hand-update the new main.inc.php file by hand.

My 6.2 altertable took 45 minutes. It's doing alot of things. Try to make sure that can run uninterrupted.

Hmmm....No "idiot animiation" just to let you know that it's doing anything? It really looks like it's stuck -- the browser "busy" icon is "not busy"...the screen doesn't change...CPU utilization is almost nil.

Ok...I'll bite. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> I'll restore the database, try again, let it run for at least 45 minutes, and will let you now what happens.

Ok. I started digging elsewhere and found the solution in the installation forum.

require ("main.inc.php");
$step = get_input("step","get");
ignore_user_abort(1);

Adding the second line listed above to the script fixed the problem.

Thanks for the assist!

Hi,

One more question, because one of my users said to me the option: "email if someone replies on youre post" ... that option doesn't work anymore in the newer version. Can that be true ? And how come and what to do ?

And how come and what to do ?</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="" face="">The feature has been reworked and expanded.

In the My Home email settings, have them select to receive email replies to their favorite threads.

Then, any threads they want to receive emails to, they simply add to their favorites (there's a toggle link at the bottom of the thread, or a check box when they post or reply to add the thread to your favorites).

This allows greater flexibility. I had posted this explanation of the differences somewhere, but I'll copy and paste it here.

As Rick pointed out, this change Expands this feature a great deal currently:

Old Way:
- Only got emails if the user replied to your specific post, not to the thread
- You could never stop receiving emails
- You could not start receiving emails if you forgot to choose the option when you made the post.

New Way:
- You can get email replies anytime a reply is made to the thread, no matter which "reply" button they push.
- You can stop receiving email replies by removing the thread from your favorites.
- You can start receiving email replies to a thread (even if you didn't participate in it) simply by adding it to your favorites.

Much more flexible.

Hope this helps.

I'm not going to put every post onto that list! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

Here you can find a hack that enables the old way, but keeps the new favorite-feature as well:

[6.2] eMail to parent poster (you may need to log in to access the thread)

I am curious about the config option that requires users to verify their email before their account is activated. How does this work? I am having people register with invalid email addresses that I am then having to go in and delete them. I am hoping that this will "fix" this problem.

Yeah, it will.

After they register... they receive a link via email. They have to click that link or else the account is never activated. If it's not activated, it'll be deleted. So it takes care of cleaning up by itself.

It also ensures that they give an accurate email address at signup. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />
