I have found a real Problem with using parenthesis in Html, as every re-post on other Message Boards, such as SI or RB will entail converting all the parenthesis into "cones" to make it work...
It's not really quicker to use parenthesis, which is mostly incompatible with other Major Boards, where most serious posters have a presence... One solution would be to post the Link BUT now RB considers it SPAM and deletes Post and Poster on sight...
The markup brackets [markup] are converted to HTML <html> when your post is entered... don't see how that could cause any problems.

Or wait... are they? I thought they were... hmm. Anyway why would you want to convert from W3T?!?! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

<font color=red>When Markup is enabled, it means I cannot use html marks such as <b> for bold but am limited to using "[" instead of "<"...</font color=red><font color=blue> If I want to re-post the same text on RB or SI, I will have to convert everything back to normal html, which is inconvenient...</font color=blue>
Why can't "<" be used across the board or if not feasible, have an option to use html or markup?... I must admit Markup looks like a lot of FUN... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
I am going to do a little testing to see if I understand most of it....
<A HREF="http://www.investorshub.com/beta/read_msg.asp?message_id=17494" target="_new">http://www.investorshub.com/beta/read_msg.asp?message_id=17494</A> ... One question answered!...
You already can set, on a forum-by-forum basis, to enable markup or html, or both...
BTW, check out the test forum... mark-away! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

<font color=blue>Thanks, I finally got it, I think... So the Admin does the setting, which can be both Markup and Html for reposting elsewhere without making any changes... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="images/icons/cool.gif" /> I guess I am left with just one question: how does one make pasted columns stay as columns?...</font color=blue>
Silicon Investor (SI) and RagingBull (RB)... I find that most posters attracted to new, better designed and regulated Boards, also want to keep posting on "their" heavily trafficked regular Board until the volume builds up on the New Board, hence the advantage of having Html available...
One thing to keep in mind with the pre tags is to keep an eye on the width of the lines as the preformatted text doesn't break the line up and can induce horizontal scrolling.
<font color=blue>how does one make pasted columns stay as columns?...</font color=blue>
You're going to have to explain that one to me... I don't quite understand what you mean.

Say I want to post the 3 columns in the Link below, without having all the Data move to the left Margin when I paste it... In other words, I'd like the pasted Data to remain and look the same... Of course, often the columns often have no visible templates, so the solution would have to take both cases into consideration...
Dbridges suggested {pre}{/pre}... This might work when typing columns but I have tried it for pasting columns without success....

I just attach the files as html if I need to post a table or something complex... it has nothing to do with W3T, since no submission box will maintain those columns without html... if you turn html on, you would be able to dump your table into the post...

There, I posted a reply... <A HREF="http://www.wwwthreads.com/perl/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=test&Number=22746&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&vc=1#Post22746" target="_new">http://www.wwwthreads.com/perl/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=test&Number=22746&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&vc=1#Post22746</A>

Seagem, I thought you meant columns like this: <A HREF="http://www.bullpen.com.au/cgi-bin/forum/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=au&Number=2496&page=&view=&sb=&vc=1" target="_new">http://www.bullpen.com.au/cgi-bin/forum/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=au&Number=2496&page=&view=&sb=&vc=1</A> Looking at the Yahoo page, what you want to include are complete tables. As Muhammad suggested what you'd be best doing is making an html page and attaching it to the post.
Actually, I meant both... Is the problem caused by the "template" in the case of the Yahoo table?... I tried posting your "simple" columns using your suggested {pre}{/pre} and it didn't work either, but replacing "{" by "[" did the trick... The Link idea is not always practical, as sometimes in the course of writing a post, one wants to illustrate a point by pasting a few columns...
BTW, how do you "make" a Table like that shown by Muhammed, using Html?... Once made, can you then paste the text found in each of the columns of the Yahoo table?... Naive questions, I know....
Oh no. Using {pre} and {/pre} will never work because the markup syntax is [markup] [/markup]. When you're showing someone in a post what the markup is you have to use { }'s or spaces or something because if you type the exact tags eg. in between these arrows -> <pre></pre>
<- see it doesn't show up. You can't type the exact markup into a post because it treats it as markup and turns it into html code. My fault, I didn't make you aware of that. The full list of markup is here: <A HREF="http://www.wwwthreads.com/perl/faq_english.pl?Cat=#html" target="_new">http://www.wwwthreads.com/perl/faq_english.pl?Cat=#html</A>. Notice all markup uses the [ ] and [/] syntax.
To your question, basically the only way you will get a table like that at Yahoo with 20 or so rows and three distinct columns to display in a post is to enable html posting on the forum and copy the code that makes the table over there into your message. I'm not sure what else I can add, except that enabling html posting anywhere does have its own security problems.
