Has anyone been able to integrate UBBthreads into Post Nuke / PHP Nuke in terms of user management, so you can use PHP Nuke or Post Nuke's initial user creation process to also update the w3t_users table within UBBThreads and effectively add a user at the same time?
I'm building a site out with too many different user management systems on each piece. and I want to reduce it to one, starting with the integration of Post Nuke and UBBThreads.
I have. I almost never use dirty words. I used a lot over the proccess of making this site. I just went live with it last night after many weeks worth of work.
The problem is that while rick is the only one working on Threads Postnuke has many authors and it shows. Just when I get used to figuring out their cookie handling for one part another breaks. And so on....
I stil have a few bugs in there but for the most part it all works. Register on one, you're registered and logged into the other.
Some advice:
You have to change the cookie name in post nuke from user to anything else. If you make the right changes in pntables.php you're half way home. php nuke uses md5 passwords. ubbthreads 6 now does as well. I used 5.5.1 and had to rewrite every part of post nuke that touches passwords. Then Rick came out with threads 6 beta and md5 passwords... and then post nuke came out with a new version <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />
postnuke expects user 1 to be anonymous and user 2 to be admin. 5.5.1 of threads is opposite. 6.0 of threads has been changed to match php and post nuke.
What this boils down to is use 6.0 if your going to do it. You can start with the beta since there shouldn't be any more database changes in threads.
I personally put all my hacks into post nuke because I'm unlikely to ever want to mess with it again but am likely to update threads.
I still have a lot of bugs, and you have a hUUUUGe board. I doubt all these bugs would make your users thrilled. I also am starting scratch. I don't even know if it can be ported.
Drop me an email, I have a few ideas. Let's see what we can and cannot do <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
I also wante dot stress (because people have been asking) this is not an official Infopop project. It's something I did on my own time for my own website. but I'll share. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
Oh boy. you've moved to 6 already. I've just finished my project using 5.5.1. That's how long ago I started it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />
Dave, if you're able to integrate PHP Nuke and Threads 6 after many hours of hard work then I don't see why you shouldn't charge for it.
Not only would you be doing yourself a favour, but you'd also be helping out Infopop in your free time because those who use PHP Nuke might consider Threads as proper and well-supported alternative to the freebie they use right now (phpBB).

I hadn't thought of or planned on charging. Especially since I didn't document what I did. I just dove in there during the hour or two when I got a chance to work on it and just hacked away.
I don't know that I could even go back and retrace my steps. I guess I could make a beyond compare diff?
I guess the first thing I need to do is document my database changes ( a lot ) and go from there trying to upgrade it to 6.

My client didn't like the dual loggin idea so I had to use the Post Nuke limted forums. Your code would a big help.
I am interested too.. I have been running Postnuke for a while now. My users dont like to login to postnuke, I also have the photo gallery module (another login) and UBBT.. it would be nice to trim some of the logins down..
I'm fixing a few bugs with my hacks. Once get them fixed I'll make the files avialable to licensed UBB.threads owners. I figure that I should have them done by the end of the long weekend.
Largo that site hasn't been updated for version 6 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" /> In fact.... it has not been touched since I uploaded it. The race team I built it for hasn't shown an interest so mine has waned as well. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" />
I'd be curious to see how this evloves. I currently run two sites, one with php-nuke and a phpbb port for the forums, and the other with threads and the PAL index system. I like the simplicity of the pal setup, but like a lot of the nuke features. I want to see more! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
It's not a question of pay, it's a question of time or interest. I don't have enough of the latter to make any of the former. I'm not a php programmer, I'm a hacker, a poor one at that. I really really do not like Post Nuke. The whole project was, to me, like having my teeth pulled. As I mentioned in my first post I found a lot of words added to my vocabulary.
Over the weekend I've fixed a few more bugs, trimmed out all of the hacks that I added that were specific to my race car team. I now have an empty PostNuke .713 merged with a UBB.threads 5.5.1. It's for new installs only unless you want to write import scripts. The databases for both products are modified. I never bothered to keep track of what I modified or hacked. I had no reason to, I didn't intend to duplicate my work.
I'll not tell you it's bug free. There are bugs. I'll not update it to threads 6, I'll not update it to PostNuke version whatever. It's something I did on my own time. It is what it is. I also have no time to support it. The UBB.classic importer will probably not work with this. There is no documentation.
If you still want it under those terms, email me with your license number, I'l mail you a copy of the whole package.

--------- Go Cougs!</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="" face="">For a VERY long time I've wanted a way to manage news posts from within UBB (first with Classic, and now I'm on Threads). It would be so cool to have one control panel to mange news posting and a forum. The only thing left would be a chat script that uses the UBB members list and I'b be in web master nirvana!
It's essential that some sort of content management system be matched up with Threads. Right now PHPNuke is quite popular and it works perfectly with phpBB. Why not Threads?
Is it honestly that difficult to integrate the login process?
You can also see the features list for the current version there.
Dave is readying a v5 that is muy bueno <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" /> You can watch the progress here: http://www.chattersonline.com/test/index.php
The problem with the current, custom CMS is that it almost solely includes data that's linked directly to the forums. It would be useful to be able to integrate the CMS with custom pages (available from a menu on the left). Other boxes such as links, site partners, and custom boxes whic one could make/name (such as today's weather, exchange rates) would also be vital.
It depends on how you want to do it. I my case I went to the exteme of making them share cookies, editing your profile in one reflected in the other, being logged into one was logged into the other. It was a long and laborious job but the registration system was truly unified and seamless. Then you start adding Nuke modules that are written by different authors and have varied qualities. Joy.
If you just want to make a Nuke registration create a registration in UBB.threads as well , and that's all yu want, it'll take 15 minutes.
I'm not sure what needs to be combined/linked (such as profiles), but I think that if Threads could work with PHP Nuke just like phpbb then I would be one glad nuke+threads user. I don't think anything more is needed, just the same level of integration as phpnuke - that's it.
Right now it's a catch 22 situation. I'm not sure I should move to Threads because I don't think I can get the ever-popular PHP Nuke to work with it. At the same time, I'm not sure I want to install PHP Nuke if it won't work with Threads. All in all I've been stuck in UBB (classic) limbo for much too long...
What needs to be done in order for PHP Nuke and Threads to work together? Does Threads have to be modified to work with Nuke, or can Nuke be modified to work with Threads?
I took a look over the weekend at the newest version of Post Nuke with an eye toward updating my threads-post nuke mix. Nope, no way, not me. They changed EVERYTHING in Post Nuke.
Used to be you could get away with altering pntables.php a bit, change some cookie scipt bits and some of the registration scripts and off you go. Not anymore. I fooled with it for two hours and deleted the entire project from my hard drive.
I don't know if GIll merged the two together or not. If so he has a heck of a lot of patience. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
No I did NOT ... I only have a link from my post nuke site to my UBBT. I sure would like to see a way for my users not to have to use three different logins but.. we are living with it..
