I've got a board running at http://www.ravengames.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi and am in the process of mirroring it at http://209.15.74.188/forums/ (the DNS will route ravengames.com to this new IP once the UBB functions properly at the new place).

I downloaded all files from the old server and uploaded them at the new one. I ran ubb6_test.cgi and it gave an OK for everything. I ran cp.cgi and changed all paths and URLs to the new ones.

Trouble is, when I run ultimatebb.cgi there are no forums visible... but when I type the URL of a forum directly (like http://209.15.74.188/forums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=18 ), the forum is there.

Also, when I click on a topic in the forum, it can't be found.

Should I move the forum in an entirely different way or what?

You probably:
- Have categories enabled, but no categories

or

- Have categories enabled, categories, but no forums assigned

Either way, UBB6 PIT is ONLY for post-installation issues. Moves are installations, and therefore belong in installation forums. As you are on Unix, this thread is being moved into the UBB6 Unix Installation forum.

Sorry for having posted in the wrong forum.

As for categories not being enabled or assigned, you can view the boards by categories, like http://209.15.74.188/forums/ultimatebb.cgi?&category=1

Everything seems to work, except for following:

- I can't see the forums from the main page (but they are there and can be seen from the categories pages already)

- posts can't be opened

- though I can post and I can see this new post from the forum, it doesn't appear in the today's posts section

Also, I created a new forum for testing. Once created, it appeared as sole forum on the main page. After I changed a setting of it in the CP, it disappeared like the rest...

Did you use the IP number for your cp, or the domain name?

The IP number. The domain name can't be used as it points to the old server.

Well in the end it was a categories problem and a rather nasty bug in the UBB itself IMHO. The solution I worked out was to remove the name of the 4 existing categories and create 4 new categories to which I gave the names of the old ones. Though I tried several tricks (like editing categories.file), nothing else did the trick. Something to fix in a new release...

Not quite understanding why this is a bug??

Well now I have categories 1-4 which can't be used because when I assign a forum to them, the forum will be invisible... changing the name of the categories or their display order still couldn't make those categories visible again... I had to create 4 new categories and name them like the old ones were to be able to use my UBB again... if it's not a bug I don't know what is...

MAN - you don't know how glad I am you had this same problem!

I can verify what he's saying...I just moved my forums from a win2k server to a linux server, and everything went well excet no forums are visable. When I create a new catagory and assign them to it - they are there again! I'd love for this one to be looked into. For now I think I can use his workaround...hopefully nothing will get screwed up...

OK, here's another clue to the puzzle...while rebuilding the search tables, it goes through each forum, and says rebuilding thread 0 of -1, so it's thinkin there are -1 threads in each forum, somehow....wish someone would reply!

OK, got it...man...combo of a few problems.

First, the original files on the win2k server were all lower case, always have been. Most likely the FTP program I used didn't preserve case, but win2k ubb doesn't care so it was never an issue. I fixed all the dirs and files during the transfer so that was ok anyway.

However when I did the rebuild forum stat files after the move, it created copies of all the Forums dirs, with the correct case...but for some reason the stupid cache on the FTP program was telling me the threads also propagated into the duplicate dirs...but they didn't. So I deleted the 'new' dirs and manually renamed the 'old' ones.

The Catagories thing is still a bug however. I was able to create deplicate catagories and use them, but now have a set of catagory numbers that will never be used because anything using them is not visable.

Oh yeah - and your Move Kit is wrong - it's outdated. you include a ultimate.cgi file and note it inthe readme but it should be ultimatebb.cgi - newbies will not catch this right away!

The movekit is meant for the transition from a 5 series to a 6 series, not a move from a 6 at one location to a 6 at another.

As for the category problem... Try totally deleting your categories.file file, then rebuilding it in the control panel. It might be a real PITA, but you'll get rid of the blank cats.

I'm gonna close this now - bringing up an 8 month old topic usually brings along bad mojo...

(If you continue to have problems, you might want to open up support ticket so we can make sure your installation is sane.)
