Hi,

After a couple of years of using the UBB we suddenly received the following message:
"Software error", Can't EXlock 'path/ubb/cache-QBSBDL53/lock/global.cgi'. The operating system has run out of file locks to give me."

The message instructs me to contact the webmaster of the ISP, but they can't find any problem. I deleted all files and installed the new release 6.2.1 to see if that corrected the problem but all in vain.

The new error message reads:
"Software error. Can't obtain exclusive lock: No record locks available at ubb_lib_files.cgi line 566."

However, I can run the "ubb6_test.cgi" without any problems and also to start the "cp.cgi" but when pressing the "Configure your BBS now"-button the message above appears.

Has anyone experienced this before and what was the solution to the problem?

That's very odd... my first suggestion would be to restart the box holding the web site. I don't think I've ever come across that one before...

I received the same error today. I went into the control panel and selected Rebuild Forum Stats File.

Seemed to work, the error is gone.

Can't edit my original post so I'll post again....but I also cleared out my cache first before the rebuild.

Well, I guess that didn't fix it received the following error just now. However when I hit the refresh button is worked fine. Any thoughts here ?

This error only occurs when your web hosting provider's servers have run out of file locks to hand out. Please contact them with the error messages.

Does anyone know how the above file lock problems were resolved?
