Hi there. I'm in the process of transferring my UBB over to an Xserve. Has been going well. I've just uploaded all my noncgi files to the noncgi directory on the server. I'm attempting to set permission to 777 on the files and the files within sub directories.

The only problem is, its taking forever! I'm using Transmit for the Mac. I'm just inside forum 1, which has over 8000 .cgi files. I've selected only a portion of the files, about 400 of them and set to 777 and its taking over a half hour and its only half way done.

I have 5 more forums with just as many .cgi files in them. At this rate, it will take me a week to do.

Is there any faster way to set permissions? I might be able to use Apple Remote Desktop and set permission within the OS if that might be faster?

Any info would be appreciated!

You shoudlnt' have to set the noncgi files manually, after you set the perms on the directories themselves go and run the upgrade process and it should go through fine (as through my relocation experiance anyway)

What Gizmo said. They say you should CHMOD every file, but I only CHMOD my cgi-bin files and it works fine

If you have shell access to the system (which you should if you have remote desktop), you can also use the -R flag to the chmod command on the command line.

And contrary to the Gizzy and Ian say, we do advise setting permissions on each file.

When using FTP it sends an individual command for each file. That means send a command, recieve a reply, send one more... etc. Using a shell client means sending one command for all the files recursive and done.
