Hello -

I have followed the instructions for the UNIX installation and have done everything in terms of permissions, etc.

However when I execute the cp.cgi file from my browser and I get to the part where it is asking for the location of the NONCGI files I tell it to go to the /ubb directory but it says it can't find it (even though it's there and I see it and the 777 permissions are assigned to it).

Now I did another test where I took the /ubb directory and placed it into the /cgi directory (I know the instructions say NOT to do this but I am testing theories on directory rights). When I put it into the /cgi directory I can completely finish configuration, register the admin acct and see the forums, BUT there is 1 problem. None of the graphics will show up that were in the /ubb directory. I just get that blank box with a red X in it which says it can't find the file. I am assuming somewhere buried in the code there are pointers to where the files are.

So either of 2 questions to help me respond:

1. Why do you think the first issue is happening when I install things according to the instructions? (i.e. getting the error that it can't find the non-cgi folder)

or

2. How do I fix the paths in the code to allow having the non-cgi folder and files in the CGI directory?

This is quite urgent. The not-for-profit that I volunteer for has been down for nearly a week and I am desparate to get them back up.

Thanks,

Since this is time sensitive, and fully examining the problem is going to require FTP Access. You need to fill out a Support Ticket and let a Groupee Guide assist you with your problem.

hi Sevan:

missing images are almost always a path/URL issue.

if you still have the ubb directory in the cgi-bin directory (which is fine): go into your control panel and navigate to the Paths & URLs section. check the path and URL to the ubb directory and make sure it's accurate. one thing to check for is that you're using absoltue paths, and absolute URLs, not relative.

if you moved the ubb directory back out of the cgi-bin already: go into your cgi-bin directory and open the vars_config.cgi file. you can edit your paths and URLs here. check the path and URL for the ubb directory, and make sure they're both absolute and not relative.

if you are still stuck, or just want us to have a look to see if we can fix it more quickly, submit a support ticket to my attention. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the response.

I checked the absolute paths and urls, one of the urls was off but i fixed it to: http://www.ilchess.org/cgi/ubb

and still i get no picture files to show up.

Unfortunately I can't open up a support ticket. The developer that created the site originally bought the license under his name and is nowhere to be found. He was an overseas developer so I've no clue what 'name' he put it under.

The version is also an older one (6.6.1) so I don't know if it's also still supported. The not-for-profit operates on a shoe-string budget.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Sevan

6.6.1 is still supported - only the 5.x series is not supported.

While I can appreciate that getting the board fixed is your highest priority, there's little we can do without looking at the installation.

Because you really *do* need to have your license information on hand if you're going to run the software, (you should be able to present it at any time, if necessary), I would encourage you to submit a ticket, let us help you find the license information, and then let us help you fix the board.

You can try this ticket type instead, which won't require license information.

Kate - I went ahead and did the ticket type for no license info.

I can get access to the site for a support person.

My ticket has my email and phone #. Phone is best.
