I finally got my board moved from UNIX to NT and installed. Perl and paths are all fine, but for some damn reason, cookies aren't working!!

I get this at the top of every page and especially the admin page! I can't change anything because I can't log in:

(I hid my password)

Can anyone help me with this problem? It has to be something VERY simple!!!

Thanks!!!!

Your server is sending out headers even though the program sends headers. This is a server configuration issue. Ask your sysop to fix it or see the server docs if you are the sysop.

Do you think this is a simple issue of allowing COOKIE CACHING on the server? I am not the sysop, but I hope I don't have to get them to do a lot of work just to get cookies working.

THANKS!

Sorry, I do not know the details of this problem and its fix. There have been several posts of problems of this type where the server is apparently sending out headers before the script does. In each case it has been fixed by the sysadmin, but there have not been follow-up posts with the specifics of the configuration fix.

Doh! Probably because the sysops never told them or the people never gave us an answer. As soon as I know, I will post the answer here!

After having the above problem, searching the message boards for help, finding this thread with no real information, i contacted the sysadmin for our win2k servers who said

'This can be corrected by changing the mapping for the .cgi extension in the IIS program on the server. '

so, there you go

I am also having a similar problem. I have installed the trial version on a Windows NT server. Everything is working but there appears to be a cookie problem. When I login to the forum (ultimatebb.cgi), I get the following text at the top of the page:

Set-Cookie: ubber2453304.1620=jonreeder&34cc238650dfb871ee9658006453d1f3&Board%20Admin&45&00000001&0&0&MMM%20dd%2C%20yyyy&hh%3Amm%20a&0; path=/; expires=Wed, 25-Oct-2006 22:15:56 GMT Date: Mon, 25 Oct 2004 22:15:56 GMT Charset: ISO-8859-1 Content-Type: text/html

It appears from the text that the cookie expiration date/time is the same as its set date/time.

I also have to constantly login for every change I make through the CP and I have never found a cookie from my forum domain to indicate that one has actually been set. My date and time are correctly set and I have tried to login after disabling my Norton firewall and virus program.

Does anyone know if the above problem is:
1. A server problem
2. A software problem
3. A trial version problem.

Thanks for your help.

hi there:

just as a side note, it's generally best if you post a new topic rather than posting to an old issue... for tracking purposes, we try to keep issues separate. we usually see new posts before we see responses to old content, so often, you'll even get a faster response. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

anyway, on to the problem at hand: this is an issue with IIS being set to send headers, even though the application sends them. have you asked your host (or systems admin) to disable the sending of headers in IIS?

Thanks for the info about posting and I will take you advice in the future.

Yes, I have presented this problem along with sidewinder's response to the server suport team but have not heard from them yet. I will send your response along right away and will hopefully post their reply saying that everything is fixed. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I have finally received my answer from the support people"

"HI, I changed the way the CGI is being handled by perl, looks like that is gone now, would you check everything out, thanks.?"

Well, I checked EVERYTHING out and it now works great! Thanks for all your help.
