UBB.classic has the ability to have Archive forums - Set the permissions on a forum to Read Only for everyone, and just mass move posts there.
If you have thousands of posts, it might just be easier to flag the old forum as Read Only, and create a fresh one. This also has the side effect of keeping bookmarks intact.

Or if you're still set on moving everything, you can just tar your cgidir and noncgidir and then untar them in their new locations and set permissions, then just turn new registrations off...

But if he opens a new board, he might be violating his license unless he purchases a 2nd copy. Infopop would need to confirm that, but 2 publicly accessable boards = 2 licenses, if I'm not mistaken.

True; his best bet is to open a support ticket asking if it'd be under license before creating a second intall.

But would that apply if the archive forum is effectively switched off? No one would be able to register or post. I guess I might have to go with archiving existing forums if that's the case. So if you archive a forum, where does it go? Are they listed together under an 'archived' section? I like the fact that bookmarks would be maintained. Don't suppose either of you know of any bulletin boards that have archived forums I could look at? I've not seen this feature before so I'm not sure how it'll work with what we have now. Thanks for the info! Matt

An archive forum in essance is a forum in which no one can post; threads can only be moved to it. You make a category and a forum for the archive, it's however you want it to look. Umm https://www.ubbdev.com/ has one <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> ...
