but is there any way to keep robots from indexing profiles and all the recent posts when you scan for a member name?

Yup. I'm in Des Moines.

To keep robots from indexing profiles, log into your CP, and goto Master Settings -> Feature Permissions.

In there, you will find a checkbox called Restrict Profile Viewing to Registered Members

While you are at it, you will probably want to restrict your Member Directory also.

To do that, you will goto Display Options -> General, Community Directory Tab. Set the Enable Community Directory to Yes, for registered users.

That should keep bots from indexing profiles.

I already had that checked.. that is why I was surprised to find it had been crawled!

In fact, I went back and checked to make sure, and it was checked in both places...

is there a robots statement I can put somewhere?

My husband grew up in Des Moines. Nice town, good people; we go back every summer. Can't find any decent coffee, though. If you've turned off public profile viewing, the spiders will just get the login prompt when they visit the profile pages - they'll still get spidered, but no useful data will be present (thereby making them pretty much unsearchable).
