My web host had a power surge and a RAID array hard drive crash. Both the HDD that my message board was on and the one the backup was on are dead. (I typically make my own backups, but I was gone on vacation.) They are sending all four drives to a data recovery company who says that they may be able to bring the drive with the backup back to life. If so, there will still be three days and 750 posts that I would like to restore.

I have copies of those posts in e-mail form. I know that it will be really ugly to restore these. Can someone here please advise me of the least ugly way?

Should I log in as each person one at a time and paste their post into the appropriate thread? Then nab the files off the server, and change the time and date of each post? Or is there an easier way?

I would very much appreciate your help with this. Thanks in advance!

PS. I was running the latest version. I think it was 6.7.2 or something like that.

That's probably pretty much the only way to bring back those posts, no less the least ugly...

Hello!

I am the co-admin for sashi's site and helping her try to figure this out.

We thought about creating an excel spreadsheet with all the posts in it while the data retrieval people are working on their part of it, then importing that into what we have left of the board when we get it back.

I looked in the manual at the import/export feature, but since we don't have a board up and running right now, i can't find out what information (column headings and data) needs to be in the .csv table in order to make the import run smoothly.

Can anyone assist in letting us know 1) Will this work? and 2) What columns do we need to have in the .csv file to ensure smooth importation into the board?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
Gemini

Any old headings will do - the import system's pretty flexable. Check out this topic on UBBDev for the basics:

https://www.ubbdev.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/8/3682.html

A few things have changed since I wrote that. Instead of indexes, we now use a field called "Non_IP_Name" which represents the field heading.

You can check out the YAML files in http://www.infopop.com/yaml/ for a better idea of what things look like.

If you think you can tackle things on your own with the YAML, then take a shot. You'll need to create a simple forum for the posts to exist in - if you don't have a forum for the posts, then they'll be discarded during the import process, and that's just plain no good. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Oh. Charles, I'm sorry that I forgot to come back and thank you. At the time of my post I was so overwhelmed with trying to restor my board, I forgot this.

Charles, thank you very much for your help. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
