I recently upgraded our board from 6.2.1.2 to the latest verion (6.7.2). All works perfectly except one thing. I enabled avatars - yet they do not appear as an option on the user profile edit screen.

I did a search of these forums and did find another user who had a similar problem. He was instructed to make sure the desired user *groups* also had permission to use avatars.

I'm not certain what these referred to "groups" are, and where I would find a reference to allowing avatars by group. I have looked through every menu option - without success.

Any help would be appreciated.

I discovered my problem and fixed it.
In member profile, where you enable the use of avatars, the wording of this section was confusing:
Since I am the administrator of the board, I wanted the ability to use a custom avatar if I desired. I also wanted Moderators and Members to be able to do the same. So - based on the way that reads above, I unchecked "Administrators", "Moderators" and "Members".

Then in this next section...
... I checked "Administrators", "Moderators" and "Members".

The descriptive text on this page led me to believe these option section were "either/or".

Once I checked the box for all the groups in the "Only Allow Default Avatar Groups" section, I was able to see the option on my Profile page.

I'm glad you were able to get it figured out. And thanks for posting your findings here for others to benefit from.

This is the last version of UBB.classic, so we will not be updating it as you suggest. We'll be sure to make the wording in the new product easy to follow, though.
