Hello --

Version 6.7.2
Linux server
http://simplyamerica.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi

I installed UBB in June and it was easy to set up and has operated flawlessly since initial installation.

My host's server crashed 8/25. The whole thing was moved and restored to a new machine.

Now we are having small problems ---

1. If I login, then go to a bookmark for "Today's Active Topics," it takes me back to the login screen.

2. UBB doesn't remember user logins. Before it would remember it forever with no problems. This is true of both the board and the control panel.

3. This is happening with different users using Explorer and Firefox.

4. Deleting cookies & cache on user machine doesn't help.

I have searched this board but have not found anything that seems to apply. Ditto with faqs.

To try to solve these issues, I have:

1. Run ubbclassic_test.cgi. Everything checks out.

2. Verified all permissions. Everything is good.

3. Verified paths. Everything is good.

4. Rebuilt forum data, member data, etc...

5. Cleared cached pages.

This is not a big board but it has become quite active but only with a few people. There are no problems as far as hacking goes.

The difficulties appear to revolve around the crashed server.

I am prepared to reload the files but wanted to check here first.

Please let me hear your thoughts.

Thank you --
UBB is a great piece of software.

Hiya,

Had exactly the same problem.

Took me for ages to short it all out.

After a lot of time without support i found the issues.

if needed, please feel free to contact me directly.

Me is still feeling big left out by the support.

Still don't understand why, but with this kind of issues it seems that u are on your own <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Hopefully it will be better soon and in the future.

This is a different problem Lex.

This user has www. in their paths, but are referencing the board in the link above without the www. This will cause you to appear logged in, but get prompted with logins. That is the first thing I would verify.

I doubled checked the 'www' in the links, and there were indeed some links missing that for some reason. Once I changed those, it works fine.

So, lesson learned.

Can we then say that the 'www' apparently MUST be part of the link for things to work properly?

Thank you -

The domain name used by the board must match the domain name used to link to the board to avoid the cookie issue. In this case, as your board is configured to think about the www prefix, you'll need to use it.
