We have recently discovered that UBB Classic won't run on a server with load balancing, so we are looking to relocate our board.
We wanted to know if you would recommend a Windows or Linux server for hosting our board as we are about to register a new domain and hosting for it.
Also, our board was previously on a Windows server. If we move to Linux, will we still be able to upload our back-up data?
Thanks Nath.

It's all up to personal preferances (so long as it's not hosted on a network share which doesn't have drive mapping); I myself prefer Linux servers.

Any performance benefits of hosting on Linux though? I'm more familiar with a Windows server, but would consider Linux if I felt it would make the board run faster or be more reliable.
No issues with the back-up data though?
One other thing...you had replied to one of my other posts asking about displaying content islands on other domains/sites. I am going to host the board on a domain, but want to display the content islands on another domain, on a server with load balancing etc. Is this possible? Any tutorial on how to do this?
Thanks again for all your help Gizmo. Cheers. Nath.

Myself I feel that being on a linux server has better performance benefits yes, especially using the PHP Accelerator on a server running Zend Optimiser (though not many linux hosts have this setup; but a lot do).
Backup should go through easily through the instructions on the transfer guide.
Yes, CI's will be able to be displayed remotely without a problem as all processing would be done on the server running your forum.

Gizmo, the content islands across domains isn't working! The content island displays correctly on my other domain, but all the posts resolve to that domain, rather than point at the domain that the board is hosted on. Here is one of the content islands: www.tradmusic.com...but the board is here: www.talktradmusic.comSo why are all the post links pointing at tradmusic.com rather than talktradmusic.com? Thanks Nath.

If you are referring to the island on the left side, it is working for me.
