I am doing a clean install of UBB classic bulletin board on Windows 2003 Server, with IIS 6. Install seemed to work, but control panel giving error.
Installed Active Perl 5.8x
Installed UBB Classic 6.7.3
Created VirDir for UBB with cgi-bin folder under it
Extracted files per UBB documentation
Can see vars_*.cgi files in UBB path:
PathUBBredacted \UBB\cgi-bin
Open the control panel by sitenameRedacted/cgi-bin/cp.pl]http://sitenameRedacted/cgi-bin/cp.pl, and above path is shown as variables path.
However, when I click next, I get a Page Cannot Be Found Error.
In my IIS logs the error code is 404.2, which is Web service extension lockdown policy prevents this request.
In ISM, Web Service Extension has Perl CGI Extension allowed. Required files tab show it at the root where Perl is installed:
PathPerl redacted\Perl\bin\perl.exe "%s" %s
Perl ISAPI and PerlEx ISAPI are prohibited; but I tried allowing them and it made no difference.
Is all that correct so far? Or should the UBB cgi bin be in the cge extension list as well?
Thanks for any help offered!

Do you mean cp.cgi? Or did you rename the file cp.pl? That could very well be the problem if so.

Did you give the servername_everyone full permissions?

You've hit upon the problem! *Somewhere* (not UBB) I had read that you should change all your .cgi extensions to .pl for security. I had only changed the cp.cgi.
But if I change cp.pl back to cp.cgi now, I can't even see the first page of the control panel. If I change it back to cp.pl I can see the first page, but not subsequent. Would you suggest I change all .cgi entenstions to .pl, or find out where I have something set to allow me to see .pl but not cgi?
Thanks for helping this newbie!

You need to make sure cgi is mapped to perl and permissions are set as in the docs on the files and folders containing the files.

I'm not sure how changing the extension to .pl will make the script more secure, but modifying the files like that *does* make your forum installation unsupported by groupee.
The best way to make sure your site is secure is to keep your software updated (IIS, perl, php and forum scripts) with the latest stable code.

Make sure servername_everyone has full permissions on the noncgi and the variables directories - it's been a while since I ran classic on a windows server, but it can do a great job if setup right <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I think what I will do is uninstall Perl and UBB and start over using just the UBB notes. I knew NOTHING about perl when I started the install so I was using some non-UBB documentation that I think confused me! Thanks for all you help Allen you saved me alot of frustration!
