I'm running Classic 6.7.1 and just moved an exisisting forum to a new host....
Previously I used spider-friendly url's with fake .html extensions, but went back to the "Query Strings" style for the move...
So, many many threads have links(with spider-friendly url's with fake .html extensions) to other topics in my forum, but now when those links are clicked, the browser is directed to the main forum page and not the linked topic. If I change the link to the "Query Strings" style, the link works correctly....
If I change back to spider-friendly url's with fake .html extensions, every catagory or topic link also takes me to the forum main page along with the older links that are spider-friendly url's with fake .html extensions....
I also tried the option for the server error 404 thing...
I must have screwed up something in the move... Any one got any ideas how to correct this?

It's possible your server setup doesn't support spider-friendly url's

What do you have it set to now? Regular or spider-friendly?

I have it set to regular.... If I change back to spider-friendly url's with fake .html extensions, every catagory link or topic link, takes me to the forum main page instead of the topic or catagory selected......
I tried every varity and combo of spider url's that is in the control panel.... Same thing happens except for regular...
I've moved/upgraded forums before, and upon entering the control panel 1st time after the move, I though it would want to check things like a upgrade does. It asked to do nothing this time... I had an extra unused site that had an old back up on it. Same revision.... I overwrote those files because I want to use this site and cancel the old site.... I've done this many times and never had an issue... I've always kept a backup just in case...

hummm, seems that your host may not have "AcceptPathInfo" turned on, do me a favor and create a phpinfo page and get me the url... phpinfo.php <?php phpinfo(); ?>

It'll sound dumb, and i should have asked it before; have you ran all of the maintenance tools in the control panel after the move? This would include clearing the cache...

Humm not sure at this point, to the best of my knowledge it should work, but I'm just a longtime user and have no real technical expertise other than what i've observed... At this point, youc an count me officially stumped...

It is wierd! Are there any tools that are not in Control Panel that can be run?
BTW, thanks for your time and effort... <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

One of the things I worry about is that all the files got down/up loaded in the correct mode.... In the cgi directory, there is a file named "php4.core" that switched my "CuteFTP" program to binary. Then, of course, the next cgi file went in ascii......
I did try renaming it with a .txt extension and re-downloading to look at, but it appears to be truly binary....
Like I said, I've uploaded and overwritten forum software before and never had an issue.... It's like the host server isn't functioning correctly or something.....
Anyhow, anything else you can think of, I'll try.... I'm editing links in topics now, but there's thousands of them....
All my domains are now pointing to the new site....
Thanks once again.... <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

hummm, you could ask infopop's (groupee or whatevr their going by now) tech support to take a gander at it; they may be able to find something... The link is here

It's possible your issue was fixed in 6.7.2: https://www.ubbcentral.com/support/version.php?product=UBB.classicthere was an issue corrected with spider-friendly urls in that version. If you run any kind of script it's extremely important that you stay current with the latest releases as bugs and much more importantly security issues will be addressed in those. Whatever script you run, all are going to have security exploits found eventually (coding is always advancing, introducing new ways to hack and secure coding languages not present today). I know people still running software years and years old - the only reason their forums are still there is because the script kiddies haven't found them yet <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

argh, that would have saved me a lot of typing <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
It's apparent that your server setup doesn't do well with spider-friendly urls. Nothing really can be done then without changing servers again. Does compatibility-mode not work either? It's possible threads will work better in this respect, but maybe not. They depend on proper server setup to work.

I'd be willing to try 6.7.3... Is it available in the Threads Member Area? I'm on line signing up, but I don't want to pay for the Threads Member area if Classic 6.7.3 isn't there...

I think I see what is going on. There is a file "php4.core" that is in the cgi directory. In that binary, I can see with a hex editor that the paths are wrong. My host must have put that in the directory before the move....

The final version of UBB.Classic (6.7.3) is in the members area (both the threads and classic areas where merged).

OK, thanks! I have asked my host to re-install php4.core so that the paths are correct... After that I'll get 6.7.3...... <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

It's still not fixed but at this point I know it's a issue with my host as they posted a statement to all customers that now spider-friendly links work.... Well they don't with php.... They work with cgi....
Thanks for help from everyone <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
