I checked in the MySQL Database and my current shoutbox starts with ID 602... all previous ID's have disappeared. Is this normal behaviour? If not, how do I prevent it?

Only 30 shouts will be maintained in that table to keep it small and fast. You'd need to mess with the getshouts.inc.php script to store more than 30.

Rick, On the subject of purging old shouts, won't that eventually cause overhead on the table and it need to be repaired?

Wonder if making it INNODB would do much, if INNODB would make efficient use of the space. Probably wouldn't be too hard to find out.
