You used to be able to sort the columns by clicking on the link at the top of each column.
This allowed you to pull up posts that had a ton of responses and see easily which posts were the most popular, (so to speak).

Not currently. This was removed for 7.0 as we're looking at more caching possibly, but this might come back in the next version or two with a sort option down at the bottom in the "Display Options" area.

I vote for it to come back! It's a nice feature. Does this forum need more memory to run efficiently than the last one? So far it runs plenty quick enough on my server. I hate to see us losing features as I will just have to keep explaining to people why losing them is a good thing!!

This one is actually easier on the server than the last. With the caching we're doing, the redesigned DB and scripts it's much more optimized. Any feature that was pulled was one that eliminated some of this benefit and will come back if we can find a way to do it without impacting the speed or server useage.

I vote for it as well. I have a forum that relies on the ability to sort by subject. I have the date set up in the beginning of the subject line for this purpose in the format yyyy/mm/dd. It is a concert forum where people expect to see the proper order of shows spanning decades. As it is, last posted is always on top and I do not have a way to make sure they fall in order. I could sticky some of them, but that is not an ideal solution to browse shows in order. I can't think of a workaround for now. The ability to hard code a preference into the forum settings to always sort by a particular column is something I've been hoping would find its way into the board, but clicking a button to sort by column every time would be a welcome addition if the other way is not possible.

As it is, last posted is always on top and I do not have a way to make sure they fall in order. This isn't a total solution probably, but might help in your case: What happens if you were to uncheck "Sort Topics by Time of Last Reply ("Dateslip")" in Control Panel » Display Options » Forum Display Options? That should sort topics by creation date at least...

I'd like this as well, in one of my forums I have a FAQ forum section (its my PHPBB one that still hasn't imported to UBB.T7) and it sorts by alphabetical order (as a date really has no bearing in a faq forum)
