My board (Threads 7) has been up for almost a month now without incident. Today, within the span of a few minutes I've received two e-mails from users who couldn't post. The error message they received is: We cannot proceed. The host from which you are accessing the board is not recognized as a valid host. This is more than likely related to a firewall issue that is blocking the referer variable. Check your firewall settings and try again.
Please use your back button to return to the previous page. I can post just fine. Is this some security setting on their end, or something else? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.
Regards, Rich

The setting "Disable HTTP Referer Check?" is not checked. Control Panel has not been changed recently.

Try to set the check. Without the referer check is enabled and this can force the error.

Be sure that you have proper url's in the referrer check as well... By default it should just be your url, but keep in mind that these are DIFFERANT urls and both need to be in the referrer check: http://yoursite.tld/forums/http://www.yoursite.tld/forums/Additionally, some firewalls and virus scanners do not send the http referral as a "Security" measure, this is a completely idiotic setting within the users software which nerfs security on your forum; you should obtain weather or not they're running a virus scanner or firewall and if so what versions; they'll need to disable this security setting. Also, i would highly advise against ever disabling the HTTP Referrer Check.

Thanks Gizmo. I checked my URL settings and they're fine. I was suspecting "user security settings", but I wasn't sure.
I'll go back to them and suggest they check/disable this.

Giz (or Rick).. please confirm that the referrer check in the CP should have the forum directory included in addition to the domain name as you've listed above. http://www.yoursite.tld/forums/as opposed to http://www.yoursite.tld/or will both work?
Stress the system until it breaks. Hey.. it works for Spacecraft.. why not here? UBB since 1999: MonteCarloSS.com

Mine is: http://www.undergroundnews.com|http://www.undergroundnews.net|http://www.undergroundnews.org Note that I have the .htaccess rule to forward non www urls to www so I don't have to put in the urls without www. It should just be domain name, although adding in forum won't (shouldn't) hurt anything.
