While upgrading, I ran upgrade.php and found that I had missed transferring some files. I transferred the missing files, but when I did the "Check Files Again", I got the following message: Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in /home/cust1/user1176702/html/forums/libs/mysql.inc.php on line 47
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: smartyprepare() in /home/cust1/user1176702/html/forums/libs/ubbthreads.inc.php on line 756 Help!

Did a little more troubleshooting by running install.php to see if I could find the error. Step 1 gave me the following information: The styles directory has its permission set to 777. I have tried changing the permissions on the /styles/_vti_cnf directory to 666 and 777, neither of which fix the problem. Any suggestions?

You should remove the front page extensions for all folders inside your forum install, they aren't needed and may cause issues with your install. At the minimum you can delete that folder in your /styles folder.

Thanks. FTP Voyager wouldn't let me delete the folder, so I temporarily removed the FrontPage extensions. This eliminated the error message. I still couldn't run the upgrade.php script, but was able to continue with the install.php. The board seems to be up and operating normally now ... is there anything that I need to fix as a result of using install.php instead of upgrade.php?

install.php creates the initial tables for use with ubb.threads and basic configuration files. upgrade.php will update the ubb database for a new version and should only be run during an upgrade. And a completely unrelated message to Rick and all the other moderators... I just got the oddbar issue again

you can safely run fp extensions on your site - however I would recommend creating a folder called say forums, and maing that a subweb. Go into that subweb with FTP (make sure both the FP and FTP usernamemes are the same) and delete all the FP items.
You can now FTP to that sub-folder without any issues - and edit the rest of the site with FP.
The two will sit happily side by side.
