I've had a request from a use to maybe change the favicon.ico image. I move a new into the directory that has the current one but the change does show up.
Do you use Firefox? Favicon is cached in Browser. I encounter the same problem. Clear the Cache and if you have a link in the shortcut list kill the link to. Create a new entry and your new favicon show up.
