I am experiencing an odd problem with IE7 since i upgraded to 7.0.2. Once a user has logged in, they cannot log out, no matter how many times they click on [log out] ...
the system gives the appearance of logging out, but at the end, the user is still there. This means, of course, that other users of the same computer cannot log in.
any thoughts anyone?

Can you duplicate the issue on your system?
What happens if you manually go delete the forum cookie?

Can you duplicate the issue on your system? not really, because i can't log out to try again with another user name!! i just tried logging in and logging out on another machine on my network, using IE6, and no problems ... What happens if you manually go delete the forum cookie? tried that. tried deleting using "my cookies", as well as deleting using IE7. still persists ...

I know this problem in every browser. You should clean all cookies from the board domain the hard way. Killt it from your disc with explorer.

Well I find it difficult to imagine you can maintain a logged on status if the cookie has been deleted.
I can not duplicate your issue with IE6, IE7, or FireFox 2.0 Mine all currently log out just fine when I click log out.

The only possible scenario I can think of that would do this even if the cookie is deleted if the browser, for some reason, is reloading the page completely from cache and not requesting a new one from the server.
Why it would do that, I have no idea, however it's worth a shot to compeletely clear the temporary internet files and see if that forces it to reload.
