Hi all, hoping someone here might have some advice.

I'm running Ubbthreads 6.5.5

Lately I've been getting a *lot* of spam. So I've disabled anonymous posting.

This seems to have fixed the spam problem, however I really would like users coming to the board for the 1st time not to have to register before they can post.

Wondering is there any solution to offering casual visitors to the site the ability to post messages, without opening the doors to spam?

ie maybe someone is aware of a modification that poses a challenge question for anon postings. Or maybe there is a way to set things up so that anon postings must be approved.

Anyhow, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Best,

Travis

UBB7.1 has a CAPTCHA for anonymous posting (and registrations) to help with spam prevention (admin definable weather to use the option or not).

No clear date on when 7.1 will be out however, it's in beta testing right now.

(Please note that all information provided here can be found in both the change log and the announcement in the forums that we are in beta testing)

Hi Travis, I had to do the same thing but was surprised to see a great increase in membership and a more loyal bunch at that.

Now, however, some 3 or so spammers a day seem to be taking the time to register. Is it possible for them to be doing that via email in the old spammer style?
