starting to have a lot of log in problems from folks
from a user ============================================= Just a heads up, I’ve had to delete my cookies and log out each time I come back to the page. Not sure what I need to do but I’m guessing other may have the issue soon. It won’t let me post until I delete cookies and then log out, then sign back in. Can’t log out without doing that either. =============
Do you use any type of advertising system on your site? It sounds like the "max cookies" for your domain is being reached (which shouldn't if just using the ubb)
Hey... I've been using Netscape since Version 1.2N ... probably even a version before that. (Let alone the pre-browser days! lol) But IE always sucked! But what can you do...? :/
GangsterBB.NET (Ver. 7.6.1.1) PHP Version 5.6.40 / MySQL 5.7.23-23 (was 5.6.41-84.1) / Apache 2.4.54 2007 Content Rulez Contest - Hon Mention UBB.classic 6.7.2 - RIP
The name of the game is accessability. When over 80% of your members are using a product, you should accomodate the quirks of that product.
I have users going through the same problems described in this thread. I'm out of ideas on what to have them try. And suggesting to them to switch browsers is B.S. when, as they say, "this is the only site I have problems with".
My stats for November:
Stress the system until it breaks. Hey.. it works for Spacecraft.. why not here?
THe original problem of this is related to work I was doing in a ticket with him. We've got users accessing both the www and the non-www urls which doesn't work too well. So we've been working on a redirect to make sure they always access the same URL. I'm pretty sure this is related to the redirect as they may be logged in with the old bookmark, but not after the redirect and then you get cookie conflicts.
So, basically they need to clear out their cookies and update any bookmarks to the proper URL. Meaning if your FULL URL is set to www.domain.com, they need to bookmark www.domain.com. If FULL URL is only domain.com then they need to boomark just domain.com.
Or, if you're in Apache, you can take and add to your .htaccess file and force everyone to use a www url (or non-www url, your preferance); I've wrote a quick how-to here.
Oh, and I'm proud to say, we're at 56.6/28.7 (IE/FireFox) and growing; then again we're pretty strong advocates of OpenSource and Web Standards at my sites hehe
its kinda fun to watch things fluctuate; we do computer help for everyone, and since not everyone knows how to run linux and most people think the internet is "the blue e on the desktop" it's not a big surprise that a large portion of users haven't been educated on alternative browsers (or operating systems).
I think that the majority of my staff runs at least one linux machine at their home/office; but several also run WXP and use IE for at least testing (as IE still is the market god of the browser wars).
I'm actually wondering if IE will go back to a browser war with FireFox/Opera/etc like they did with Netscape several years back...
Well I know the "Internet" my daughter is hooked up to sure is faster than mine
Went down to the University to help her set something up, I downloaded a 6MB file and it was done before I could click the next button. I thought maybe it was a bad download and I just got an html file. Opened it up and it was the right file. I checked further and she is hooked up at like 26Mbps download speed. Dang... know wonder the kids are using all types of p2p software and bleeding the other systems dry.
A lot of collegas are on "Internet 2.0" which has a load more bandwidth than what we can ever dream about having as home/smallbusiness owners lol... And others just have a pipe big enough to make bob marley jealous... I wish I could AFFORD that type of bandwidth lol...
And Paul, wow, thats a beautiful world where I could blow IE to kingdom come hehe... Too bad it's way too integrated into windows, else i'd uninstall it :x... The only useful portion of IE I've ever really used was the shortcut bar to the right of the start menu (I say this as a feature of IE as it's installed along with IE, snag a copy of W95 and IE and there it comes lol).
