I have a friend who is having trouble accessing our board from her laptop. This is what she said: I am on my laptop, and I can't seem to post on the board. I keep getting the message: The host from which you are accessing the board is not recognized as a valid host. This is more than likely related to a firewall issue that is blocking the referer variable. Check your firewall settings and try again.
Please use your back button to return to the previous page. I don't see anything different on this computer from what I have on my desktop, and I use ZoneAlarm on both.. The only thing different is I am using a wireless connection on this computer. Any advice would be appreciated. ~Sue adwoff.com

Heya Everyone~ I need to revisit this for a moment or two. I think the deal is fixed in the control panel, but I'm still having some people having difficulties. Here's one person's message: The host from which you are accessing the board is not recognized as a valid host. This is more than likely related to a firewall issue that is blocking the referer variable. Check your firewall settings and try again.
But, for some weird reason, I can PM folks. (????) How is it that she cannot post but can PM? Weird. ~Sue adwoff.com

Also, try to find out if she's using a firewall or virus scanner, and try to find out versions (norton internet security also can be quite the fickle pickle)

Sue!!!!!!!
Sue, are you really going to have a problem with people posting to your forums from a web page that is not on your site? I'm betting no. I'm betting that is not a problem for most sites. If you don't think it'll be a problem why not just run that off completely and not worry about it?

If you don't think it'll be a problem why not just run that off completely and not worry about it? Huh? LOL What can I turn off? I'm more than just a little brain dead right now. Giz -- didn't see your second message -- I'll ask her about security & what-not. This is her latest message: We cannot proceed. The host from which you are accessing the board is not recognized as a valid host. This is more than likely related to a firewall issue that is blocking the referer variable. Check your firewall settings and try again. Please use your back button to return to the previous page. pm's probably don't check the referrer - that would be why she could pm but not post.
To turn off the referrer check go to your
control panel -> primary settings -> advanced settings
and check this box:
Disable HTTP Referer Check?
then submit the button at the bottom of the page.

Ok, the problem that she is getting is that you have the refer checking on. And evidently her firewall or browser or ... whatever... is blocking that.
My question to you is.. do you really need it on? What that does is protect your board from people trying to post to it from a different website. Is this an issue for your board, do you think? I'm betting no.
