Is there any way I can limit the custom avatars (remote, or uploaded avatars) to a specific group (such as moderators)?

Not that I'm aware of at this time. The idea and methods of more control for this and other items has been brought up though so stay tuned...

I never got my head around the group thing in classic,
but agree groups for control has to be the way forward
with all permissions and privilages.

indeed - the biggest use of groups is the ability to restrict certain activities to a paid or premium group. Maybe through post count or payment.
Am thinking of things link custom title, number of people allowed in a PM, chatroom etc....
Also maybe forums that only a certain group of people can use etc...

I'm a memeber of a paying website and they seem to have it
right. A member has either a bronze, silver or gold membership
and they can only access certain forums.
They can see them but cant get in.
As they are in these members groups they also
have custom images showing which group they are.
I think there are 2 ways to look and develope for this?
1. Payment - More you pay more you get (imformation access)
2. Contribution - the more you contribute as in helping others or just posting you gain access to more privliges and access.
If your mad about your forums, i think its fair to say
that if you begin with a reward for content and contribution
i think there is a time somewhere down the line your going
to begin to think?? I could make money from membership.
Just my thoughts.
