Long story - short version: 1999 - Started an audio software directory running UBB5. The site continued to grow and stayed with UBB.classic until it was discontinued. I than decided to try another forum that integrated with the sites database so users would only need one log-in to access both forum and database. 2007 - After 8 years I decided that I couldn't maintain the site any longer but wanted to keep all the great info that had been posted over the years. I dumped the integrated database/forum and came back to UBB.threads earlier this year. Luckily I'd kept a backup of the old UBB.classic so managed to reload that and do an import. So there you go. 8 years in two paragraphs. Hope that was short enough. Mark Audiotoolers(Our old site was UBBCentral Site Of The Week - 25th July 2005)

lol so did you loose all content between those "transision" periods? if so, you should wait for an importer from that product then add it back hehe

We were only without UBB for about 10 months so the lost posts were no great loss and the majority of new registrations only sing up to ask one or two questions and they're never seen again! It's not like the "good old days" when we had a large community of regular visitors. I've noticed this trend in a lot of places now though.

Could it be due to saturation of boards and blogs on the Internet now days? If you had an old board in the past maybe you were one of the few on the topic but now days there seems to be an endless supply of sites for just about everything.

indeed - most of them are run by school kids who think they can set up a massive forum on some crappy free software, and then spam your forum advertising it....

I agree with the saturation and availability. Everyone is fighting for your custom now and offering blogs, chat, forums, etc. and if you're not a "schooly", domain registration and server space costs next to nothing today and you also get a lot more space and bandwidth to play with. I think when I started I had 50MB of server space and 5GB bandwidth limit and it cost a fortune. Then you got a message saying "This site is not available due to excessive bandwidth useage" and had to wait until the 1st of the month before it came back on!

Out of curiosity?
Your five top posters appear to have over 15,000 posts between them - yet your total number of posts is just over 6000.
What's going on there?

Could be a couple of things: 1. Upping the post count for staff so they always show first. 2. A LOT of pruned topics. 3. Starting over with threads whereby ditching all old content.

Ah yes. I always wonder about how you guys are such prolific posters... I only have about a thousand posts on my own forum.

Yes it's pruned posts from when the forum moved servers and from UBB.classic to "another forum" and back to UBB.threads. No point in carrying dead weight and out dated posts from 1999. You would have thought however that the post totals would have been recalculated.
