I entered this forums and read the first thread. I then decided to browse through the rest of the unread threads so I selected the last one with unread messages. When I finished reading the new messages in that topic I selected 'Next Topic' and I ended up at the first thread (that I had read upon entering). It's repeatable for me and for any thread I read 'Next Topic' always takes me to the first one. I've attached a screen shot of read and unread threads.
Thanks, Lee

Good point - the Previous/Next Topic links aren't going to the first unread topics.
I never use those links, so not sure how I'd prefer them to work. It could be a bit confusing to go to, say, the middle of the "Next Topic" without knowing which topic it is, tho.

IMO, the expected behavior for Previous and Next are to go to the Previous and Next thread, not the Previous and Next "Unread" thread...

Either way works. Of course if going to the next thread it should act like you clicked on it and go to the first unread post.
Note for those skimming: the current behavior is to go the the first thread, not next or next with unread.

Just making sure Rick sees this since going to the first topic is a bug.

Just tested this again since it has slipped to the third page with no response.
Still happening as described, with Next Topic going to the very first topic in the forum.
In addition, clicking Index from there (the first topic) doesn't take me to the page that contains the topic I'm now on, but to the page my original topic is on (in this case the third page).

Been a bit of a tricky one to track down. Still trying to figure this one out.

I didn't think this was a bug, but I guess a matter of opinion...

There was some confusion in this. It's not a bug that it doesn't take you to the unread post in the next topic. It is a bug that it doesn't always actually take you to the next topic, but sometimes will take you to the actual first topic in the forum even if that's not the next topic.

I would of course vote for it to act the same way as if I'd clicked on the topic. I can't find a sensible reason for it to behave in a different manner. I'd be interested in hearing why someone would want it to behave differently than when directly selecting the topic. It is a bug that it doesn't always actually take you to the next topic, but sometimes will take you to the actual first topic in the forum even if that's not the next topic. No arguments here I think. Plus the additional oddity of 'Index' returning to the previous topics page. Lee

I just upgraded to 7.1 Beta5 and, in addition to the bug where it takes you to the newest post, I have had several members report the behavior of these buttons as not what they expected. Most expected to just be taken to the next topic "down" the list (meaning older topic) when clicking "next topic" and then walk "up" the list when clicking "previous". NOt a big deal, but it does seem to be confusing them (and me).

Yes, it's a matter of interpretation and reading habits I guess Layout vs. time based perception. Maybe they should be more specific as in "Newer" and "Older" or something like that.
