Custom content at the bottom of main forum area

I want to add some custom content below my main forum area in the center of the window. Like a custom island, but not on the sides, in the middle. Does anyone know a way to do this with out heavily digging into the main php code?

the footer insert comes to mind; you can insert custom islands using the "external use" option.

If you chosoe to hack it into the template files, you'll ahve to start and end your php code with:
Code
{php}{/php}

vs
Code
<?php ?>
