I have a classifieds forum on my site. I'd like users to be able to delete their posts once the item has sold. I see the setting in the CP to allow users to delete posts within a certain # of minutes. I was thinking of allowing users to delete posts within 60 days which would be 86,400 minutes. Would this be a problem? I mean would it cause any strain on my server?

My other idea is that I would just manually delete classifieds posts after 60 days. Any suggestions?

It won't be a strain, it'll just allow users to purge content, anywhere, on your forums, that belongs to them wink

What is really needed here is the ability to have a long term deletion on one forum only - with all the others kept to the default timescale.

I miss having the expire threads after a certain period we used to have on threads 6. This was set up on a per forum basis in forum settings. Kinda like we have know for expiring pointers.

Okay, I changed it to 30 days after realizing how ridiculous 10 million minutes was laugh -- and to prevent people from wiping out all their posts like happened to me a couple months ago. Might even shorten it more, but people seem to like to be able to wipe out a post now and then. Not sure how to best handle it...

Sounds a good idea, self distructing Topics lol

I just lock Topics When items are Sold.
With a Forum description saying locked = Sold.

But there is no way to deleted them via a search i guess.

Personally i like to keep ALL topics,
I may change my mind in 2017 lol..

'eh I figure a day max; at least then they can change their opinion; longer than that has always eemed foolish.

There was a bug in 7.0x (not sure which) that allowed users to bypass this limit; i'm sure i heard Rick say it was fixed.
