UBB.threads PHP Forum Software Community Forums Resources and Customizing How Do I? Post Island with Title + first 50 chars of Post

I'm trying to find a way (quickly...ummm...easily...) to have a post island generate which contains the titles AND first 50 chars of the Post content for external use elsewhere in my site.

From my novice navigation of this topic - it seems I need to edit the post_island_X.tpl (or other Template depending on where/how I want to do this) and that it would be a Smarty function. Since I'm not familiar with UBB Data structures OR Smarty, and am a HACK at best in PHP, has anyone else already accomplished this herculean feat?

Create an RSSFeed and choose that you want to use 50 characters; then download a feed reader like LastRSS (free) and have it syndicate the content.

Yeah - wow - duh. I went back in to the RSS Feed config at LEAST 3 more times and still didn't get it. Talk about dense.

Anyhow - it couldn't be more obvious...I just wasn't paying attention! I'm not getting my RSS feeds to build now, but I'm going to look through the forums and see if anyone else has had this issue.

I had DCTalkSolo but they went out of business when their webhost moved to a new server and forgot about them, so no backups the owner didn't want to start from scratch; which really sucks because it was a decent sized community :/...
